Amit Shah, the president of Bharatiya Janata Party and now the Union Home Minister, will soon move into the bungalow of late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Amit Shah is currently residing at 11, Akbar Road. Shah has chosen the bungalow as his new official residence and the decision has raised curiosity amongst many in the power circles since both the houses are equally sprawling and there is hardly any difference between the current residence at 11, Akbar Road and the bungalow at 6A Krishna Menon Marg, where late Atal Bihari Vajpayee resided till he passed away in August last year. As per the government records, both the houses are classified as Type 8 houses, reserved for ministers of cabinet rank. Although the new bungalow will be a little more than three acres compared with the Akbar Road bungalow where Shah is currently residing. The new bungalow has seven bedrooms and two drawing rooms.
As per the sources, the new accommodation is close to Shah’s North Block office and also takes care of the leader’s increased security requirements. The bungalow fell vacant after former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death in August last year. Vajpayee had moved into the bungalow as a former PM after NDA lost the 2004 election. He stayed with his foster family for nearly 14 years and the family vacated the bungalow last November.
After the Modi government came to power in 2014, it was decided that no government bungalow previously occupied by a leader in Delhi would be converted into any memorial.
