Meta-owned WhatsApp is one of the most used instant messaging platforms in the world. Most smartphone users will probably be using WhatsApp, which means if you’re added as a contact on someone’s phone they can see details like last seen online or even your status.

It is a breach of privacy but it seems that WhatsApp is working on a feature that can prevent this.

According to a report by WABetainfo, WhatsApp has enabled a new feature to protect its users, “to block your last seen and online status of unknown contacts if you have never chatted with them.”

As per the report, a WhatsApp user contacted WhatsApp on the issue and got a reply from the customer support team. In the email, WhatsApp customer support said that “To improve the privacy and security of our users, we are making it harder for people you don’t know and chat with from seeing your last and online presence on WhatsApp.

” WhatsApp clearly stated that it “won’t change anything between you and your friends, family and businesses you know or have messaged before.”

Report says that many apps are on app Store and Google Play Store which can be used to check last seen or online status of selected contacts on WhatsApp.

The new feature eliminates this and now unless you have an active chat with a person or if you have chatted with that person. No stranger will be able to see when you were last seen on WhatsApp or your online status.
