A couple of days prior to the official announcement of India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming 2019 ICC World Cup, Virender Sehwag had voiced his personal favorites for the picks for the 15-member India squad. The 2019 ICC World Cup is going to be hosted by England and Wales.

BCCI announced India’s squad for the ICC World Cup under the captainship of Virat Kohli, on 15th of April in Mumbai. Meanwhile, just before the official team announcement from BCCI, Virender Sehwag named his India squad.

Check out who all his picks were, and how they match with the original team that’s been finalized by BCCI for the showpiece event:

Sehwag’s India squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup:

  • Virat Kohli (C)
  • Rohit Sharma (vc)
  • Shikhar Dhawan
  • MS Dhoni (wk)
  • KL Rahul
  • Vijay Shankar
  • Kedar Jadhav
  • Rishabh Pant
  • Hardik Pandya
  • Kuldeep Yadav
  • Yuzvendra Chahal

BCCI announced actual India squad for the 2019 ICC World Cup:

  • Virat Kohli (C)
  • Rohit Sharma (vc)
  • Shikhar Dhawan

Looking at the two lists, the readers can easily see that Sehwag’s India Squad and the actual BCCI announced India squad for the World Cup is exactly the same, excepting for Sehwag’s pick Rishabh Pant who has been replaced by Dinesh Karthik in the BCCI’s official India team to play the showpiece event in the cricketing world.

Sehwag also commented earlier that at any time a cricket match between India and Pakistan is nothing less than a war, and it will be ever so more true at the 2019 World Cup after the militant attack in Pulwama. India and Pakistan are slated to fight it out at the World Cup on 16th of June. Sehwag said that this match would mean a war, and a war that we should win and not lose.
