UIDAI launches new Aadhaar app for iOS, Android smartphones

UIDAI has launched the new mAadhaar app that is more secure than the old Aadhaar app. Users can also avail personalised services using the mAadhaar app.

If you are using the old Aadhaar app, it’s time that you delete it. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new version of the Aadhaar app that much more secure than the older version of the app. The new mAadhaar app is available for download on both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store.

As per reports UIDAI is asking the users of the old Aadhaar app to delete the previous version and install the new mAadhaar app, which does not support third-party apps, immediately.

The mAadhaar app weighs 51MB on the Play Store and it requires smartphones running on Android 5.0 Lollipop and above. On App Store, the app weighs 34.9MB and it can run on iPhones and iPads running on iOS 10 or above.

Here are some of the key features of the new mAadhaar app:

— The new mAadhaar app features support for a total of 13 languages. The list includes English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu).

— Anyone can use the new mAadhaar app irrespective of the fact if they have Aadhaar or not. However, users will needs to register their Aadhaar Profile in the app to avail personalised Aadhaar services.

— Users can also download Aadhaar, order a reprint, update their address, download offline eKYC, show or scan QR code, verify their Aadhaar, verify their email, retrieve their UID/EID, or request for an address validation letter using the mAadhaar app.

— Users can check status of various online requests.

— Users can of the mAadhaar app can also lock or unlock their UID, Aadhaar number or biometrics anytime.

— Users can also generate Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) which can be used instead of SMS based OTP.

— Users of the mAadhaar app can also see the updated view of Aadhaar profile data after their request to update certain details has been successful.

— One of the most interesting features of the newly launched mAadhaar app is that it can hold Aadhaar details of up to three profiles that have been registered using the same mobile number. This detail can be accessed in the profile section of the app and it allows users to access all the services offered by the mAadhaar for the people dependent on them who do not have a phone of their own, such as kids, using their phones.
