  • OnePlus is hosting a display technology event in China on January 13.
  • The event is expected to give a preview of the 120Hz refresh rate Quad HD+ display.
  • OnePlus could use that display on its OnePlus 8 Pro flagship this year.

The race to offer smoother high refresh rate display is at its all-time high and every manufacturer is gunning to offer the next-gen technology before its rivals do. OnePlus, which initiated this refresh rate race last year with its 90Hz display on the OnePlus 7 Pro, now seems to be getting ready for bringing it’s a smoother display this year. The company is hosting a new event in China where it’s going to talk about display technology.

According to a report from GizmoChina, OnePlus is hosting an event on January 13 where it will talk about its latest display technology. The teaser invite for the event doesn’t reveal anything but it shows an outline of a fullscreen display that carries a contour similar to the OnePlus 7 Pro’s display. Speculations suggest that OnePlus will sue this event to showcase its 120Hz refresh rate OLED display and it could be present on one of its 2020 premium models.

While the details of the event is shrouded in mystery, it seems evident that the company has worked on the 120hz refresh rate display that could be featured on the OnePlus 8 Pro later this year. Unlike previous years, OnePlus is now rumoured to bring three new variants of the OnePlus 8 series and the flagship model in this lineup is going to be the OnePlus 8 Pro.

OnePlus announced back in September that it’s going to stick to 90Hz display panels as standard on all its phones from 2020 and chances are that the entry-level OnePlus 8 Lite and the regular OnePlus 8 will get the 90Hz display as standard. However, to distinguish the premium Pro variant, OnePlus is looking to move to 120Hz refresh rate display. With rumours of Samsung moving to 120Hz refresh rate screens for its Galaxy S20 series flagships, the chances of OnePlus bringing the same to its phones now becomes more obvious.
