India’s electric mobility future is slowly taking shape and Mercedes-Benz has become the latest manufacturer to announce its entry into the electric vehicle segment. The company has revealed its intentions to launch the EQ sub-brand in India in 2020. The Mercedes-Benz EQC will be the brand’s first electric vehicle in India when it goes on sale in the first half of 2020.

Mercedes-Benz EQC Launch

At the recent India showcase of the EQ brand, it was announced that the launch of the Mercedes-Benz EQC in India will take place in April 2020. Ahead of its scheduled launch, the EQC electric SUV will be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in February as Mercedes-Benz is looking to gradually introduce Indian consumers to the EQ brand before the first product goes on sale. Aside from announcing launch plans for the EQC, Mercedes-Benz India also revealed that it has lined up more than 10 new product launches for the Indian market in 2020.

Mercedes-Benz EQC Price in India
There are no plans of local assembly for the electric SUV as Mercedes plans to bring the EQC via the CBU route. Consequently, it will come with a hefty price tag. The Mercedes-Benz EQC is expected to cost upwards of Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom) in India. While it may not have any direct rivals in the market just yet, it will lock horns with the Audi e-tron as well as the Jaguar I-Pace once they go on sale in India.

Mercedes-Benz EQC Specifications
Powering the EQC 400 are two asynchronous electric motors, one for each axle giving it all-wheel drive capabilities. Running these motors is an 80kWh lithium-ion battery pack that makes for a maximum power output of 408bhp and peak torque of 760Nm. As is the case with EVs acceleration is super quick with the EQC 400 posting a 0-100kmph time of just 5.1 seconds. Charging time is 40min from 10 to 80 per cent with a DC fast charger of course. As per the New European Driving Cycle or NEDC, the EQC 400 has a range of 445-471 kilometres. You can also charge the EQC with a regular domestic socket but that will be much, much slower. With an AC wall box charger, the EQC can be charged three times faster than a regular domestic socket.

Mercedes-Benz EQC Features
The exterior of the EQC isn’t very striking but does boast stand out features like futuristic-looking full LED headlights with blue inserts and a light bar running across the hood. Much of the styling is quite similar to the current crop of Mercedes-Benz cars particularly its SUV range. Towards the rear, things have again been kept clean and simply with LED tail lamps unified by a full length LED strip. The EV sits on aerodynamically enhanced alloy wheels that look quite attractive. The EQC Edition 1886 that was showcased in India comes only in metallic high-tech silver and features 1886 badging on the exterior as well as the interior. Much like the exterior, the interior too is very familiar Mercedes-Benz affair. The dashboard is dominated by a dual-screen setup along with the latest MBUX multimedia system. The vehicle on display featured a sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, ARTICO artificial leather upholstery and more. Exact variant and features list will be revealed closer to its launch.
