BS Yeddyurappa is all set to take oath as chief minister of Karnataka at 6pm today. It’ll be the fourth tie that Yeddyurappa will become the CM of Karnataka. He met the Governor of the state- Vajubhai Vala in the morning to stake claim to form government.

This news came three days after the speaker disqualified three Congress legislators for defying their party’s whip. The JD(S)-Congress coalition government lost a trust vote on the floor of the state legislative Assembly.

Confirming the news, Yeddyurappa said, “I just met the Governor to form government and take oath as chief minister. The government has agreed and the oath ceremony will take place between 6 and 6.15 pm.”

Confirming the same on Twitter, Yeddyurappa tweeted “As instructed by our National President Shri @AmitShah ji and working president of BJP Shri @JPNadda ji, I have met his Excellency Governor of Karnataka to stake claim to form government.

I will take oath as CM of Karnataka today at 6 pm.”

However, the opposition is not happy with the decision and questioned the Karnataka Governor in a press conference on how BJP has been given a chance to form government without majority. Party leader Siddaramaiah said, “BJP has the strength of 105 which is way less than the halfway mark. In no way, BJP can form the Karnataka govt if the Constitution is followed.”

The Congress- JD(S) alliance government led by H D Kumaraswamy fell on Tuesday after it secured only 99 votes against the BJP’s 105 in the Karnataka Assembly. The voting was held after a progression of abdications by JD(S) and Congress MLAs, who claimed absence of security in the alliance.

Confirming backing by BJP at the national level, Karnataka MP Shobha Karandlaje said, “Today BS Yeddyurappa ji has staked claim to form Govt, party high command has supported him. Numbers in assembly are not a problem, also the rebels MLAs are firm on their stand and if they want to join BJP, we will welcome them.” Stay tuned for further updates.
