Google has partnered with Asus to work on single board computers dubbed as ‘Tinker Board’. These devices are expected to be of the size of a credit card. While the concept is similar to Raspberry Pi, Google’s Tinker Board will primarily be meant for running AI apps. Asus is expected to showcase the first batch of these computers at the IoT Technology 2019 conference in Japan on November 20.
As per a report by AnandTech, there will be two variants– Tinker Edge T and Tinker Edge R. “The Tinker Edge T is based on NXP i.MX8M with an Edge TPU chip that accelerates TensorFlow Lite, whereas the Tinker Edge R is powered by the Rockchip RK3399 Pro processor with an NPU for 4K machine learning,” it said. The variants will include active cooling along with input-output ports like HDMI, USB 3.0 and Gigabit Ethernet port.

Asus explains that these devices will help create “anomaly detection solution” that realises image processing and inference processing of DeepLearning only by edge processing of ASUS Tinker Boad S without using the cloud.”
“Unknown abnormalities can be detected by learning only normal images and can be used as an AI image detection tool for camera inspection and visual inspection,” it added.
