Nvidia has come up with a mini pocket sized computer that has been christened as the Jetson Nano. The new Nvidia Jetson Nano comes with a little tag of just $99 that complements its nano size and name. The new mini AI computer is aimed at the researchers, embedded designers as well as DIY makers as per the company. Essentially, Jetson Nano is meant for all those who wish to fiddle around with a system for all sorts of offline AI development to create something really cool and intriguing.

The Nvidia Jetson Nano AI computer gets powered by a 64 bit quad-core ARM processor, which it has been endowed with a 128-core Nvidia Maxwell GPU and comes along with the support of 4GB of RAM. Together the hardware offers processing speeds that clock up to 472Gflops. The developer kit also comes with an array of ports including USB-A 3.0, DisplayPort, HDMI and ethernet for the users to plug in devices such displays, camera modules and to allow internet connection.

The Jetson Nano runs on Linux by default and supports all popular Machine Learning (ML) platforms such as Caffe, TensorFlow, MXNet, PyTorch, Keras and more. The computer along comes with frameworks to allow robotics and vision development including ROS and OpenCV. This developer’s kit also allows video analytics with up to 8 real-time HD streams.

Apart from releasing Jetson Nano, Nvidia has also showcased model robot called Jetbot. Priced at just $250, the Jetbot gets powered by the Jetson Nano. Thus, the company showed off the AI computer’s capability to aid in robotics development alongside a lot more AI stuff.

The Nvidia Jetson Nano is available for sale at $99 via the company’s distributor network right now, while the production-ready version will launch in June and will be priced at $129.

There are other AI computers available in the market as well, such as the Intel Neural Compute Stick 2 that costs under $100, and Google’s Coral brand sells a development board and a USB stick tagged at $149 and $75, respectively.
