  • Vivo could launch its first foldable smartphone at MWC 2020
  • The smartphone is expected to be launched on February 23 in Barcelona
  • If launched, this will be the first foldable smartphone from Vivo

The foldable smartphone race is hotting up, and Chinese phone maker Vivo looks likely to be the next player to step into the ring with its own offering in the segment. The company has reportedly sent out invites for an event it’s hosting at MWC 2020 in Barcelona on February 23.

While the company hasn’t officially revealed what it will be launching at the event, reports claim it could very well end up being a foldable smartphone or at the very least a premium smartphone as the company isn’t a regular at MWC, and as such would only come to the event in the case of a major launch.

The company has also started to send out invites for the event, one of which was also received by GSMArena. As mentioned above, there is little information about the launch event, and the invite too does little to help with the same.

Apart from the basics that include the venue, time and a request to save the date the invite features nothing else. There is, however, a big V finding space in the background hinting at a foldable display smartphone or at least a premium flagship from the company. But since the company has decided to share little information on the matter the all bets remain open on exactly what Vivo has in store for us on February 23.

But just in case if Vivo decides to not launch a foldable smartphone, reports claim we could end up seeing it launch the Vivo V19 Pro instead. The phone would serve as the successor to the highly popular V17 Pro that was launched earlier this year.

The upcoming phone would follow Vivo’s recent launches in India, the last of which was the V17. To remind our readers, the Vivo V17 was launched in two colour variants and at a price of Rs 22,990.

The phone brought with itself a single selfie camera as compared to its more expensive cousin, V17 Pro which was announced with a dual selfie pop-up camera. The rear camera module of the V17 Pro consists of a 13-megapixel telephoto lens which is replaced by an 8-megapixel camera for wide-angle shots.

The Vivo V17 also gets a 6.44FHD+ AMOLED display with a maximum resolution of 2400×1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20:9. Underneath the hood, the dual SIM phone comes powered by the Snapdragon 675 chipset.
